Morning After The Storm

I would like to share a blog I came across while perusing quilting blogs this morning while waiting for the sun to shine. Denise, over at Beyond Sock Monkeys is a very creative quilter. She has designed several new quilt blocks I think you would enjoy making... Take the time to check her out. You will be glad you did.

BLESSINGS, Pat

ORGANIZED??? Maybe tomorrow...

It is almost impossible to be organized in all areas of life but if we can manage a few, it seems to help other not so organized areas. The system in the following blog can be adapted to organize anything... scrapbooking supplies, sewing/quilting materials, honey do projects, daily house cleaning chores... the list can go on and on. Read this link and let me know if it inspired you to organize or reorganize something  Since my sewing space is forever evolving, DH just shakes his head when he comes home from work and the room is in yet another configuration. He is just glad he doesn't have to help move it around. He is one that is content with "the way it was"... I will be trying out some of the ideas from the blog today. Who knows, maybe no more changing things around! But then, who knows...

Update on the quilt I made my mother. She was thrilled to receive the "granny square in purples" quilt I made for her. Now she wants me to make four more quilts!  I wonder who they are for :-) ... Now for a color scheme. If you think this might be for you, let me know what your favorite color is.I have been playing with 2 1/2 " squares and have some designs on the design board but won't decide on the pattern until I get several more of the 12 1/2" blocks made. This is one possibility.

Scrappy Around the World...

I learned a new way to do pinwheels without cutting all those triangles first... Visit the tutorial from Missouri quilt company on You Tube:

JUST A FEW

These are a few of the finished quilts by the Monday Quilters. The quilts were delivered to various charitable organizations in November, just in time for our cooler weather here in Florida. Now we are starting on quilts for next year. Actually I think everyone is finishing up their last minute Christmas quilting and shopping.

Today I am trying to put together some backs for quilt tops I have had hanging in my closet for.... well let's just say a long time.

IT'S A FINISH

Finished the lap quilt for my mother; now to get it in the mail.  I totally amazed myself on this one.  I backed it with flannel so it will be cozy and warm for those cold Indiana winters.  I have six more tops waiting to be quilted.... Glad I haven't made any silly promises like using my stash before buying more or not starting a new top until I get the others quilted.  I did just pin one of the waiting tops but I am so itching to start a new one... Maybe I can work on both at the same time since I have my back up machine back in service. :-)

What last minute Christmas projects have you been working on? Leave me a note in the comment section.

Check out some of the other blogs I have listed under A Few Favorite Places. There are lots of give-aways going on.  Join in the fun.

As I was enjoying my morning walk this morning, I was overcome with joy and so blessed by the goodness of God and all He is to us. It is true that when you look at life with a thankful heart, the world looks different... better.

                 BLESSINGS,     Pat

The Countdown Is On :-)

The Christmas holiday season is once again upon us and I feel soooooo behind... Of course I do because I always am... No worries because if I don't get it done, no one knows I was planning to do it in the first place. Had a great visit with my daughter and her family for Thanksgiving but unfortunately it was cut short because I got sick. Doing better now and praise God, no one else is sick!

I really enjoy making these rag quilts. Not only because they are so cute, but when you are finished sewing them together, there is nothing more to do... I am so the procrastinator at backing, quilting, and binding. I have always made my rag quilts out of flannel as that makes them so soft and cozy for children but my daughter makes hers out of quilting cotton and they are awesome as well. When I need a quick gift, this is my go to!

I found this granny square pattern  here at Blue Elephant Stitches.  I know I have posted about this before but I just love the pattern. Even as a scrap quilt, it can have so many themes. I am planning to do a Christmas granny square themed quilt next.

Are You an Encounter?

I read this quote on Quilt Diva Julie's blog and wondered, "am I an encounter or rekindle..er to others?"

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~ Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965)

Besides the thought provoking quotes on Julie's blog, she has a lot of inspiration. Definitely a blog worth perusing.

I just love making these rag flannel quilts for babies... so easy and so comfy.
Makes for a happy quilter and a happy baby :-)

Today is Monday so it is off to the Monday Quilter's group. Hope to get my granddaughters quilt top pinned so I can start quilting it.  Have a blessed day.

What I'm working on...

The cooler weather is here so it is a toss up whether to work in the yard or quilt. Trying to do both so I have been cutting into my house cleaning time. Oh darn! I did manage to clean the stove and do dishes. Haven't cooked in a few days though... DH ordered pizza the other night and our daughter took us out to dinner last night. Life is good!

This is what is on my design wall today. I started putting it together last night after dinner and stayed up until midnight to finish putting it together. Pretty excited about it so maybe it wont take long to sew together, but then there is the back and quilting the whole thing.   That is another story! :-)

Finished this top Friday for my mother. Purple is her favorite color so I gathered the scraps together and made this granny square quilt. I just love this design. Good use for 2 1/2 " scrap squares...

Where Did Summer Go?

The cool weather of fall is upon us. I hope to enjoy this season a while as this is my favorite although in Florida it doesn't last long :-( ... or long enough for me.
Monday Quilters have definitely been busy. Many quilts have been completed by the Monday Quilter's group for various charitable causes and I have been busy with quilts for my own grandchildren. I have finished Natalie's quilt top and will be quilting it soon, very soon... I think she wants it this year :-). At least this one will be big enough to cover more than her little toe!

Although the snowball pattern is awesome and quick, I don't think I will be doing another one of these for a while.

I have discovered a new pattern that I really enjoy making and that is the scrappy  granny square. I am hooked for sure. A tutorial for the block can be found here  at Blue Elephant Stitches.

This quilt was a combine effort of the Momma, Grandma, and Grandpa! Here is a pic of grandpa doing his part... of course while watching football on TV!

Baby Liam's Quilt

This quilt is for my youngest grandchild, Liam. He is only 6 1/2 months old so I am doing good. Maybe I will have it quilted by the time he is a year old. LOL... Since I started working, I don't get a lot of quilting done. I have six quilt tops finished waiting to be quilted. Always something else to be done.

Happy New Year 2011

Spending the New Year holiday with my daughter Jamie who lives in Orlando. Went to Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue for New Year's Eve dinner and show and afterwards watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks show from the beach at Fort Wilderness. Awesome! Today we are watching the Bowl games, well my husband and daughter are. I am here for support - Florida get with it! Since I don't have my sewing machine with me, I am knitting dishcloths... :-) and planning for Saturday, Jan 8, when  the Monday Quilters are going to meet just for me! Well not really just for me but since I went to work I don't get to participate in the Monday quilting so I asked that they plan a Saturday a month so I can attend.

I have also been spending the day visiting other quilting blogs... I love quilters! Now back to purusing quilt sites for new ideas.

Trying to Get it Together

In June I started working outside the home, the first time in 27 years... and I am still adjusting so I am thinking I need a little push to get back into quilting again. I have plenty of inspiration available from all the quilting blogs I read, books/magazines etc. but I miss my quilting buddies     ---------------------->

I am hoping to get together with them soon so I can get back into the sew....ing of things. Does anyone have any tips how to get over the hump of being soooooo unmotivated after a day at work? Help!!!

Design Wall

This is what is on my design wall today.
I collaborated with my granddaughter, Kaity,
and this is what we came up with. All the squares
are from Monday Quilter's wonderful friend, Carol.
I love the design wall. It makes it so easy to move
the squares around. I've got the rows numbered
so I can take this down and sew and have Kaity help
me design another quilt from other squares that
Carol has sent. The printed squares are monopoly money and the monopoly game board. We separated the squares with the black to make them stand out and the green around the edge added the needed bold color.

Kaity has been working on a strip quilt she is making to donate. She is about half-way done. She works on it when she comes to visit. Trying to keep her consistent so she does not pick up any bad habits of having UFO's lying around. Lots and lots of encouragement is the key for an almost 10 year old.Posted by Picasa
I love the creativity of the string quilts. These ladies do such an awesome job using scraps to make beautiful quilts!

A Granddaughter's quilt! Finished!!!

Same pattern, different fabrics.  Almost Finished :-)
The black and white squares were generously donated to Monday Quilters by Carol.

A couple of the RWB quilts we were able to finish to take to the veteran's home...

One of the ladies in our group is working on this
Christmas Crazy Quilt that she will be making into a tree skirt.

Love those "String Quilts"...

The stack for the veteran's home is getting bigger!

One of the ladies is working on this Amish style quilt to be entered into a quilt show...

String quilts are such an awesome way to use up scraps...

This is Pat's granddaughter Kaity picking out her strips for her string quilt....Teaching another generation!

Here is Cindy, another newcomer to our group and to quilting, putting together a "L-ove" quilt. Would you believe she finished this quilt top last week in just one sitting with the help of one of our seasoned quilters.

This is the string quilt my granddaughter Maddy is working on.

More finished tops...
Good job ladies!!!

Beth was new to quilting when she first came to the group and now she has the bug. Here she is working on her string quilt, well actually she is working on two at the same time. Yes, I'd say she has the bug... but not seasoned yet because she will finish these before she starts a new one, unlike many of us!!!

How many UFO's do you have stashed waiting to be finished? Leave us a note... Maybe we can encourage you so they can move to the FINALLY FINISHED stack.

This awesome quilt was transformed in one Monday from several scrap log cabin squares that were donated to the cause. We are so appreciative of donations and the women in our group with an eye for color... You go girls!!!

This favorite of everyone in the group was lovingly named "Hydrangeas". I love the design - the unframed squares seem to pop off the quilt.

We would like to hear from you so leave us a comment!
